Review: Gugo Sulfate-free Shampoo from Beauty Manila

After less than two years, I got my hair colored  so I opted to use organic shampoo again to retain my hair color. After extensive research, I found out that a shampoo that has a sulfate makes the hair color fade easily.

I went to Beauty Manila's shopping site, and checked the Be Organic Gugo Sulfate-free Shampoo. Unfortunately, it was out-of-stock so I continue using the commercial shampoo. Until one day, I saw in Facebook that they had a promo that ran until April 2 a P1 shipping without minimum purchase required. I checked what I've been eyeing on the site and it's available!Without hesitation, I bought it and waited for 3 days to be shipped at home.
Be Organic Gugo Sulfate-free Shampoo

The packaging of Beauty Manila is classy. Just look at it!

I saw from the reviews that this shampoo can be a shampoo-and-conditioner-in-1 so this post will be a solo review for the shampoo.

It is infused with gugo to protect your hair from damage. Gugo is rich in saponin that promotes hair growth, strengthen hair and prevent thinning hair. Prolonged use will resultin thicker, fuller, and shinier hair.

BENEFITS

  • boosts hair growth
  • strengthens hair against breakage
  • increases hair volume
  • prevents hair thinning
  • prevents dandruff
  • reduces hair loss
  • adds shine

Upon opening the parcel, Be Organic Gugo Sulfate-free Shampoo comes in a sturdy white bottle sealed with a tape. As I checked the liquid, it was a surprise that the shampoo is very crystal clear and the formula is runny. It is also indicated the expiration date on the bottle.

At first, I was hesitating if the shampoo would do its job to clean my hair. As I applied the liquid, it's dumbfounding to find out that it's bubbly - a thing I didn't expect for an organic shampoo. While I was lathering it on my hair, I got the feeling that my hair is tangling. The feeling remained till I dried my hair with my towel then I combed it.

When my hair got dry, it's a surprise that it is soft even if I did not use a conditioner. However, my hair is still frizzy because I have a porous hair, so it is still advisable that I use conditioner.

I like that the scent of this shampoo is not too strong but it lasts for a day so I still feel fresh and also, I don't get dandruff by using Gugo Sulfate-free Shampoo compared to the other organic shampoos I tried. Lastly, my hair fall is lessen.

Would I recommend it? Yes, aside that it's all-natural and made from the Philippines, the price is cheap. For only P170, you could have an organic hair product. I would advise though that using a conditioner is still a must. I heard that Virgin Coconut Oil conditioner is a good combination for this one.

Review: Dermcare Underarm Whitening Set

I bought Dermcare Underarm Whitening Set because my pits got burned because of the calamansi extract. Well, I also put calamansi on my underarms with the desire to whiten it the natural way but what happened is the opposite. So to resolve the issue, I was curing it with aloe vera plant. Natural over natural - getting organic. LOL. After a little while that my underarms start to heal, I head over to Dermcare Clinic.
Dermcare Underarm Whitening Set

First, I got five sessions of their underarm whitening service for P1,200. After the fifth session, I availed the Dermcare Underarm Whitening Set (P500) so I can continue to remedy my skin even at home.

Step 1 - cleansing
The tawas soap is a translucent soap that is only meant to be applied on the underarms. It has obviously, alum, for odor and sweat control. I use this every morning and every night. On the photo,I only put it in my  soap dish. It's not included in the kit :)
tawas soap

Step 2 - treatment
I use No Sweat Dry Lotion right after bath and once only. I apply it with cottons and I can see that there are residues  of the deodorant removed that makes my underarm to get darker. It can be replaced as a deodorant if I do not have heavy physical activities for the day.
No Sweat Dry Lotion

Step 3 - protection
Their No Sweat Deo-Whitening Roll On really protected me the whole day. It's unscented and I don't get bad odor and it does not darken my underarms since it only contains alum and melfade.

From Google: Melfade is a purified aqueous extract derived from bearberry leaves (Arctostaphylos uva-ursi) combined with magnesium ascorbyl phosphate which is a skin whitener, anti-oxidant and water soluble vitamin C derivative.

The only downside of using Dermcare's deodorant, I can see clearly the white powdery effect after application which would not make me to confidently raise my hand when wearing sleeveless.

Step 4 - whitening
After a long day, I cleanse my pits with tawas soap then use the No Sweat Underarm Whitening Cream. After drying your underarms, put a pea-sized amount then scatter all over the area. It has a plant extract to whiten underarms and the scent smells floral. Apply it before bedtime.

So that's it. These products can last for 3 - 6 months and I would recommend this to the girls who's main concern is to whiten their underarms. It really helps to make your skin clearer.  I would definitely restock!

Toiletries to Bring for Your Vacation

So you book a plane ticket and on the day of packing your luggage, it seems that you do not know what to bring. Other than wardrobes, the toiletries is also the most important thing to keep ourselves clean and fresh on the whole day of relaxation or extreme activities.

I always carry this with me whether if it's for check in or for hand carry. Having a separate bag for your toiletries in the check in baggage secures your clothes from not being bathed with spilled liquids. You do not want to spend your vacation washing your clothes when you should be gazing up the Eiffel Tower, conquering the Great Wall, or having a photo op in cherry blossoms.
clear quart-sized bag

The toiletries however, is not allowed on carry on baggage if the liquids is more than 3.4 ounce. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has a policy of 3:1:1. All liquids (lotion, shampoo, perfume, conditioner, etc) must be in 3.4 oz or smaller containers that fit in 1 clear quart-sized bag with only 1 bag per passenger.
credits to TSA

Here's the list of the toiletries I put in my bag:
1. shampoo & conditioner and body wash or soap

I only bring sachets for the convenience but if ever you have special shampoos or conditioners that does not come in sachets, buy a 3.4 oz of clear bottle and label it.

2. facial wash, feminine wash, toothpaste, toothbrush

3. deodorant, lotion, perfume

4. make up remover, alcohol, sunscreen or mosquito repellent, cotton, day moisturizer. (I put tissue in a separate bag)

So there! I hope this list will keep you reminded on what toiletries to bring whether it's just an excursion or a long journey vacation. Feel free to screenshot!

Strip It, Hair Removal Sugaring

I knew about Strip It Hair Removal Sugaring through femalenetwork.com but didn't mind about it for I just recently bought the No Hair Removal Cream of J Tomas Solutions.

Because the No Hair Removal Cream procedure is just like shaving, I got disappointed to the result so I look for another hair removal in a form of honey cold wax. I thought that using cold wax would not dismay me since Lay Bare uses cold wax for their clients. However, I didn't knew that kneading a honey cold wax needed much force. I did try using the cold wax that I bought but I guess I don't know how to use it. My nails and fingers ended up stucked with the cold wax. Whew!

Looking back with the screenshots from my cellphone, I saw Strip It again and this time I decided to order online here. I settled the payment first thru BPI, sent to their email the proof of payment then after they confirmed, my Sugaring Kit arrived after three days.
Strip It Hair Removal Sugaring

The Sugaring Kit comes with the following:

Sugaring is also known as Egyptian sugar wax. It's all natural & water soluble. It's not watery but it's not too thick either.
This wax has been used for how many times already. I received it in full tub.
with flash

Directions:
1. Make sure that the skin is completely clean and dry.
2. Powder lightly if skin is oily, and then brush it off completely.
3. Hair should be at least one-fourth inch long.
4. Apply Strip It with the wooden spatula in the direction of your hair growth.
5. Take a cloth strip, press it down firmly onto the waxed area and rub for a few seconds only.
6. Then immediately strip off the cloth in the opposite direction of the hair growth.

There you go! My hair is removed from its roots. I would prefer this method than using cream or shaving. As my hair grows back, it is finer and softer tip than shaving does. Also, it is not as painful as compared to other waxes, believe me!

Moreover, Strip It has calamansi that promotes skin lightening and it also removes dead skin cells and dirt at the same time. Itching to try, shop online or have this at the following stores:

*Sesou Nature Source
Trinoma (G/F near Sarabia Optical)
Rob Galleria (2/F near Lacoste, East Wing)
Rob Magnolia (2/F in front of Crocs)
Glorietta 1 (G/F near F&H)
Market! Market! (G/F near Mercury)
ATC (Garden Wing at the basement level)
Festival Mall Alabang (G/F near Sarabia Optical)
Rob Place Ermita (2/F near Sarabia)
Rob Place Las Pinas (G/F near Payless)
Ayala Fairview Terraces (2/F near Sarabia Optical)
Cash & Carry Makati (2/F above Starbucks)
Solenad 3 Nuvali (G/F bldg. D near Healthy Options)
Shoppesville, Greenhills (G/F near Mcdo)

PS. I ran out of cloth stips so I bought in Watsons this. You can also order an additional cloth strip from Strip It.

Review: Dove Pure Deo Roll On

I've been using Dove deo with a cap in blue color for a little while. Out of curiosity, I checked the other variants and what caught my attention is the Dove Pure roll-on.

Dove Pure claimed to have no fragrance, no parabens, no colourants and no alcohol. I guess this would be a friendly product in my underarm so I didn't hesitate to give it a try.

The packaging has a hint of mint green with white cap. It has the instruction to wait for the cap to click while twisting to lock it.

Apparently, the Dove Pure has no smell at all and I can say that for 24 hours I didn't reek. To be honest, I have tried other deodorants that has the same theme "all natural" thingy, but the effect didn't last for 24 hours. I sweat in gallons which in effect, I start to smell bad before the night ends.

Even if Dove Pure is not "all natural", it is good to have an option where the chemicals are less. It is said that the chemicals and fragrances are the factors that make the UA gets darker.

In addition, this won't leave a sticky feeling plus it won't leave you stains in your wardrobe after a long day.

Sharing my regimen, I remove my deo at night by using virgin coconut oil to keep my UA nourished.

The Immortal Plant: Aloe Vera

As I have mentioned in my blog post before, I had burn because of applying calamansi in my skin. So to cut my expense, I came up to the idea of healing myself the natural way. I resort to try aloe vera because I have observed in some skin UV protection product that there’s always aloe vera extract mentioned. So I dig in more to the details before I applied the aloe vera gel on my skin.

Aloe vera is a short-stemmed plant about 1-2 feet tall that is known as a “plant of immortality” because of its miraculous properties. It’s a plant that stores water in its leaves in a form of gooey translucent gel. It’s also from a family of cactus!
aloe vera

This plant is rich in Vitamin C, E and polyphenols.

Because it is rich in Vitamin C & E, aloe vera can reverse signs of aging, wrinkles and stretch marks. It can also be replaced instead of using creams and lotions as a general moisturizer for dry skin especially that this plant is fast absorbing. According to the study, topical application of the gel increases collagen production and improve skin elasticity for a 45-year old women. No wonder that most of the beauty and skin products we have today have aloe vera in it.

The thickest part (bottom) of the leaves is the most essential. However, if you want to drink aloe vera, have a bowl of water and soak it for minutes to remove the yellow (sap) fluid because that taste bitter. Check it out below.

Another trivia, keratin is a primary protein of hair that contains amino acids, carbon, oxygen, hydrogen, sulfur and nitrogen. In line with this, aloe vera has similar properties like that of keratin. Therefore, using aloe vera to the hair rejuvenates the hair with its own nutrients. It can help to remove dandruff. It also speeds up the hair growth by topically applying it into the scalp and let it sit for 30 minutes before rinsing. For hair care, you may apply aloe vera and coconut oil together for strong, smooth and bouncy hair.
the gel

Meanwhile, polyphenols is a powerful antioxidant that can also be found in the aloe vera gel. It can inhibit growth of certain bacteria which is why it’s a good antiseptic. For people with acne, wounds, diaper rash, scabies, and warts, aloe vera can be applied topically.

It is also recommended by dermatologists to remove tan, treat sunburn, burning mouth, frostbite, because it contains cooling properties similar to menthol.

Truly this plant has unbelievable healing properties! It does help me to ease the inflammation pain I had in my underarm.

Planting aloe vera is easy plus it can be easily grown in a tropical country just like Philippines! Have this low-maintenance plant in your yard.
