Review: Dove Pure Deo Roll On

I've been using Dove deo with a cap in blue color for a little while. Out of curiosity, I checked the other variants and what caught my attention is the Dove Pure roll-on.

Dove Pure claimed to have no fragrance, no parabens, no colourants and no alcohol. I guess this would be a friendly product in my underarm so I didn't hesitate to give it a try.

The packaging has a hint of mint green with white cap. It has the instruction to wait for the cap to click while twisting to lock it.

Apparently, the Dove Pure has no smell at all and I can say that for 24 hours I didn't reek. To be honest, I have tried other deodorants that has the same theme "all natural" thingy, but the effect didn't last for 24 hours. I sweat in gallons which in effect, I start to smell bad before the night ends.

Even if Dove Pure is not "all natural", it is good to have an option where the chemicals are less. It is said that the chemicals and fragrances are the factors that make the UA gets darker.

In addition, this won't leave a sticky feeling plus it won't leave you stains in your wardrobe after a long day.

Sharing my regimen, I remove my deo at night by using virgin coconut oil to keep my UA nourished.

The Immortal Plant: Aloe Vera

As I have mentioned in my blog post before, I had burn because of applying calamansi in my skin. So to cut my expense, I came up to the idea of healing myself the natural way. I resort to try aloe vera because I have observed in some skin UV protection product that there’s always aloe vera extract mentioned. So I dig in more to the details before I applied the aloe vera gel on my skin.

Aloe vera is a short-stemmed plant about 1-2 feet tall that is known as a “plant of immortality” because of its miraculous properties. It’s a plant that stores water in its leaves in a form of gooey translucent gel. It’s also from a family of cactus!
aloe vera

This plant is rich in Vitamin C, E and polyphenols.

Because it is rich in Vitamin C & E, aloe vera can reverse signs of aging, wrinkles and stretch marks. It can also be replaced instead of using creams and lotions as a general moisturizer for dry skin especially that this plant is fast absorbing. According to the study, topical application of the gel increases collagen production and improve skin elasticity for a 45-year old women. No wonder that most of the beauty and skin products we have today have aloe vera in it.

The thickest part (bottom) of the leaves is the most essential. However, if you want to drink aloe vera, have a bowl of water and soak it for minutes to remove the yellow (sap) fluid because that taste bitter. Check it out below.

Another trivia, keratin is a primary protein of hair that contains amino acids, carbon, oxygen, hydrogen, sulfur and nitrogen. In line with this, aloe vera has similar properties like that of keratin. Therefore, using aloe vera to the hair rejuvenates the hair with its own nutrients. It can help to remove dandruff. It also speeds up the hair growth by topically applying it into the scalp and let it sit for 30 minutes before rinsing. For hair care, you may apply aloe vera and coconut oil together for strong, smooth and bouncy hair.

Meanwhile, polyphenols is a powerful antioxidant that can also be found in the aloe vera gel. It can inhibit growth of certain bacteria which is why it’s a good antiseptic. For people with acne, wounds, diaper rash, scabies, and warts, aloe vera can be applied topically.

It is also recommended by dermatologists to remove tan, treat sunburn, burning mouth, frostbite, because it contains cooling properties similar to menthol.

Truly this plant has unbelievable healing properties! It does help me to ease the inflammation pain I had in my underarm.

Planting aloe vera is easy plus it can be easily grown in a tropical country just like Philippines! Have this low-maintenance plant in your yard.

Review: Santa Maria 100% Virgin Coconut Oil

I used calamansi in my underarms because I heard that it helps to whiten skin. However, what happened to My UA is the opposite. The first day felt normal but the next few days, it stings and it gotten dark. Calamansi, the remedy I thought became another problem. It really burned my skin.

So. I'm one of those people who relies to Google whenever I have questions in mind. From a Q&A website, I found out that to cure burned pits is to keep it moisturized by using aloe vera, virgin coconut oil and a vitamin E gel.

I searched in our leading grocery stores here in the Philippines but found nothing so, I consulted again to Google on where to find.

To my surprise, VCO is popular in USA and the oil they used are manufactured here in my country. Odd that I can't find in the grocery. My further research informed me that it can be purchased from the exclusive distributors. Thankfully, some of the VCOs are partnered in online shopping websites, buy here, now I won't have to stroll like crazy in malls.

I got this Santa Maria 100% Virgin Coconut Oil 500 ml for only P399.
Virgin Coconut Oil

So there's a difference between Cold Processed ANH - A No Heat and Cold Pressed.

According to the brochure,

"VCO can be produced by two common methods, heated and unheated process. While many virgin coconut oils found in the market claim to be cold pressed, the oil you buy may have been heated after extraction to hasten the lowering of the moisture (water) content.

Virgin coconut oil experts know that unheated VCO is the best. This allows for the retention of monoglycerides and other natural anti-oxidants such as vitamin E, A, and C which serve as a natural preservatives. Heating will destroy these substances leaving only the lauric acid to work alone rather than in conjunction with these micro nutrients."

Compare with the sunflower oils I used that the oil gets hard and sticky outside the bottle after long use, the virgin coconut oil is not. It stays the same as it is. Maybe this is what the statement above is trying to say.

It amazes me that the oil is very crystal clear! Just try looking at it below.

The smell, is of course, has a coconut aroma. That's why I only apply this at night in my UA so that I won't smell bad during the day. I use cotton balls to apply this and it becomes a cleanser at the same time as it removes the deodorant residues.

This also has bacteria-killing properties, and can reduce underarm odor. Meanwhile, I apply this in the morning on my hair before I take a bath.

I also sometimes use this as my cooking oil. The taste is something new in my daily dish. Also, it's been said that drinking a teaspoon helps for weight control and constipation. Just drink 1 tbsp 3x a day 30 mins. before the meal. Otherwise, take it anytime of the day.

"For people with cholesterol, take the blood test first, then take Cold Process Virgin Coconut Oil 1 - 3 months, and then repeat the blood test. In general, VCO can improve cholesterol. However, some people may be genetically incompatible with coconut or allergic to it. and therefore should avoid VCO."

My mother also topically applies the VCO on her skin whenever she feels her arthritis and she feels relieved. Indeed it has an anti-inflammatory action.

Would I recommend it? Yes but don't expect immediate improvements as healing will take some time. Extra Virgin Coconut Oil improves collagen cross-linking that helps to improve stretch marks, scars, and fine lines and wrinkles. I can't totally attest to its low blood pressure and losing weight capabilities because I don't have it. But for my readers out there, I hope you can try drinking it and share your experience here in the comment section. Thank you!

After 2 months, I visited a clinic and told me that my skin got really burned so it needs a peeling session to remove the burned dark skin. I'll keep you posted.

Review: Origani Exfoliating Salt Scrub

Are you one of those mall strollers who is ambushed by a sales promoter to try a product demo of a body scrub that shows it removes the dirt in your skin?

Yes, Origani Botannica Exfoliating Body Scrub is one of those product demos. One might think that it's an expensive and I don't deny. I have also tried other product demo like Israel's dead sea salt body scrub. Of course, I did not buy it even if I have witnessed and experienced myself that the product is really effective simply because it's not pocket-friendly.

However, Botannica Body Scrub was given to me for free because the SA was so pushy. He is convincing me to buy his products by putting more freebies. And of all the freebies he gave, I can definitely say that this body scrub is THE STEAL!
Origani Botannica Exfoliating Body Scrub

Origani Exfoliating Salt Scrub Botannica is a non-abrasive formula designed to gently exfoliate and scrub dead skin cells off to make the body feel refreshed and vibrant after use. The invigorating salt scrub helps skin stay moisturized and hydrated with the essential oils. Indulge and renew the body's softest side.

All Organi products come in a luxurious packaging and of course, this body scrub did not fail.

Origani Exfoliating Salt Scrub comes in a tub but this one is a plastic tub as compare to the day cream of Origani which is in glass.

The scrub is just like alum but be surprised when you rub it. You can feel and see the oil. See the pic below.

rubbed (see the oil)

If you are a fan or very familiar to the scents of beauty oils in the market, Origani body scrub smells the same but Organi has a distinct smell which you may not like in the beginning of application.

I just put small portions of the scrub on my body parts and rub it on my skin gently. I can start to feel that my skin starts to get smooth because of the oil, but the softness of my skin is the feeling I've never had before. Touching it feels fragile like you'll get wounded easily. If I would rate the softness of my skin after the application from 1-10, I'd rate 10. This is because of the sweet almond oil and olive oil being absorbed into my skin that makes it very supple.
after rinse

before rinse

After applying, I used body scrub sponge to totally remove the skin dirt. In my experience, not using scrub sponge after applying would definitely make your skin soft but the next day, the skin dirt will all come out. Of course, we don't want to end up rubbing our skin at the wrong time.

My mother has dry and cracked heels. I asked her to apply it and after that, it becomes reddish. It looked fresh and it became soft. Even herself is amazed with the result. Unfortunately, I can't provide a photo. I'll update this as soon as I see my mother doing it.

Would I recommend? Yes. While applying, I admit that I don't like the smell but when I already dried myself and begin my day, the scent smells better and luxurious. Also, comparing to the body scrubs I used and from the body scrub service I tried in clinic/salon, Origani Exfoliating Body Scrub is so far the best skin softening and cleansing. If only someone would do the scrubbing for me, it would be the bestEST feeling. Teehee!

Review: Nivea Extra White Firming Body Serum

I don't usually put lotion when it's sunny because I hate the greasy feeling when I sweat. However, I walk a mile before I reach my work place which makes me to decide to apply lotion with SPF. I was using Nivea Extra Whitening Cell Repair & Protect body milk for a long while but I did not notice that it does not have SPF. It made me to decide to switch to a lotion with sun protection.

While strolling, I saw Nivea Extra White Firming Body Serum. It has SPF33, PA+++, UVA1, UVA2 and UVB. You already know that if the Sun Protection Factor (SPF) is higher, the user is more protected. Now, let me tell you that SPF is only the measure of protection against UVB rays. UVB rays are usually the reason that makes our skin to get dark when we are exposed to the sun. However, UVA does not show any indication of harm to the skin but same like UVB, it also damage collagen fibers. It’s a good thing that this Nivea Extra White Firming Body Serum covers both UVA and UVB protection.

It also contains vitamin C and Q10. Camu camu is a super fruit that is high in vitamin C that helps to boost skin whitening while Q10, an antioxidant, boosts skin repair and reduces free radicals damage. Serum, as compare to lotion, has more concentrated formula than lotion. It is a perfect combination for skin care, isn’t?

Comparing to the usual Nivea lotions that comes in a bottle, the packaging of the Extra White Firming Body Serum comes in a squeezable tube. I got mine a 200 ml tube for P295. It’s a white creamy liquid in a floral scent that is thicker than the lotion. It feels sticky at first but when it sets in, you can feel that it already penetrated to the skin because the sticky feeling disappears.

Would I recommend it? Yes! You can feel that your skin is softer after applying. However, its main highlight that says, EXTRA WHITE, did not take effect on me. I just think that the color of my skin is still the same. So, I am recommending this despite of its whitening fail because it has more beneficial points to the skin like firming and sun protection which you cannot find in other brands. It’s good for daily use for people who get exposed to the sun for a short time. On the contrary, if your work requires longer sun exposure, I would still recommend an SPF and PA+++ lotion like Banana Boat, Beach Hut and among others.

Review: Holika Holika Clearing Petit BB Cream

I always include BB cream on my daily makeup as it stands as a foundation to my face and a protection to UV rays. I bought Holika Holika Clearing Petit BB Cream because it only comes in 30 ml and also it is cheaper among the known Korean brands. It has an SPF 30 so it's already a steal for only P325. It is a practical way to try it first in a smaller tube before investing into bigger ones, right?
Holika Holika Clearing Petit BB Cream

There are varieties of Holika Holika BB Creams. Each color represents each type, so it's easy to know which product should you use. However, the labels at the back of the product are written in Korean so researching on the internet should be done first before going to the mall.
from Google Image

Its packaging comes in a blue tube that can be squeezed out easily. It contains extracts of tea tree oil and oil absorbent powder that helps clear your skin of blemishes. The smell is lovely and floral. Quite a least thing to expect for BB cream.

It is more watery than creamy so be careful when applying it to your face as it might spilled your shirt or on any fabric because the stain is not easy to remove. The hole is also bigger than the usual BBs I tried.

look closely

Its color is lighter than my skin tone so after applying, I needed to wait a little and to blend on my skin. It doesn’t cover acne or scars, but it evens out the skin. It's a BB cream that has a matte effect rather than shiny. However, sweating doesn't count so a touch up of powder after 2 hours of commuting from home to work is necessary.

Description: “This is for uneven surface of skin. Tea tree oil extract makes skin clean and it covers uneven surface effectively.” Would I recommend it? Yes, especially that it can be tossed in your bag everyday. The coverage is good for everyday use. It's also cheap but has a high SPF.
