The leading character
R (Nicholas Hoult) has already forgotten his name and that his name begins in R, because he is dead, a zombie. No matter how much he thinks, he cannot remember anything when he was still alive. The thing that will make him feel human again is when he eat the brain of a human, making him to view all the memories of the one he ate. R saved Julie (Teresa Palmers) from zombie attacks. With confusion, Julie thinks why she is saved by a zombie from his zombie friends which she later discovered that it is the brain of his boyfriend that R ate.
What's funny with this movie is that it is narrated through the perspective of the zombie, that makes the movie not really frightening but a comedy film. He makes comments about himself when he's acting weird, his stuttered words, his dead walk, etc. and even teaches Julie to play dead.
“I want to change my punctuation. I long for exclamation marks, but I’m drowning in ellipses.”
“My friend “M” says the irony of being a zombie is that everything is funny, but you can’t smile, because your lips have rotted off.”
“You should always be taking pictures, if not with a camera then with your mind. Memories you capture on purpose are always more vivid than the ones you pick up by accident.”
"There is no ideal world for you to wait around for. The world is always just what it is now, and it’s up to you how you respond to it."
"I don't want to be this way. I am lonely, I am lost. I mean I am literally lost, I have never been in this part of the airport before."
