My Second 5K Run: Rexona Run 2013

A cold after midnight fondled our skin as my friends and I traveled to SM Mall of Asia. Since the past Battle of the Sexes running event, there is not a single week that goes by that I didn't go to MOa. My fondness in watching UAAP basketball games is mostly to blame for this. MOA is far from where I live, yet the place pulls me in like a magnet since I've been pretty attached to sports and fitness lately. I guess it's probably because getting hooked on sports relieves me from the anxiety and pressure caused by work and personal matters. Whether you are a man or woman, all stress can be shed through sports.

REGISTRATION FEE
21KM - P900
10KM - P700
5 KM - P600

It was 2 AM when the bus we were riding finally pulled over to Seaside Boulevard which is the location for the event. We actually arrived quite early since the real call time is 3 o'clock in the morning. From the three running events I attended, this is the earliest call time I ever has and the truth is, I still felt so sluggish even though I was able to sleep for about an hour and a half, The venue was colorful, and there were lively sounds blaring from the speakers which both helped revive my sleepy earthly body back to life.

The 21k runners assembled first, and the enormous crowd knocked me down since there is another batch waiting behind them. While we were waiting for the 3 o'clock gun time for 21k runners, the hosts gave us some helpful reminders. They noted that it is prohibited to use some "pailaw", because they have got everything set, and all that was left to do is to run with the beat. The signal for 21k runners to start the race could not have been more electrifying as the band Sandwich sang live, pushing everyone to kick their gear and run like they've never ran before. In addition, there was a fireworks display which left the crowd with a big fat "wow!" as an apparent applaud for the event.

By 3:30 AM, the 10k runners were gathered, so Shiela left our group. Shiela decided to level up her race, because among us, she is the one who is much driven to hone her talent for this particular sport. Meanwhile, the signal for the 5k runners came in after 15 minutes, so Obin and I paced ourselves to run, rock, and roll. It was a slow-paced run for us from the starting line because there were just so many people. After short while, Obin was out of my sight. I wanted this run to be as chill as the wind, so I didn't want to put any pressure on myself. I simply let my self feel and enjoy the party vibe.

I'm unsure about how far I've run, but we passed along a tunnel filled with disco and laser lights. If people call the wonders of the world as tourist attractions, then I shall call this tunnel as the runner's attraction. My eyes feasted on the multi-colored lights. In truth, I haven't been to clubs and bars for the last six months. I'm in serious need of a night out with friends.

While people continued to run, we passed by another runner's attraction with a DJ playing on his very vibrant stage. Moreover, there were neon-clad men whom the crowd took pictures of.

"Pay your surgeon very well to break the spell of aging
Celebrity skin is this your chin or is that war you're waging?
First born unicorn, hard core soft porn
Dream of Californication, dream of Californication..."

I later realized that I was about to end the race. It tool me 46 minutes to finish that run. I waited Obin and Shiela to finish their colorful journey as well.

I did some stretching after the run to prevent muscle pain for the coming days. When I finally saw Obin, we went to the 5k finisher's line to get our kit and freebies. The free Gatorade quenched our thirst. Next, we fell in line to have our picture taken at the Photo Wall. Shiela came out of nowhere after finishing her 10k run for 1 hour and 24 minutes. We also looked for the free ice cream booth, but there was no ice cream left. This shouldn't really be a surprise, but it would have been nice to cap off the run with ice cream.

Upon checking my Facebook account, the Chrono Track Live has published my Run result automatically. (The time in this photo is the actual moment where I am writing this blog.)

This would appear on the screen when you click the race result.

Even though we were not able to get our tongues on the free ice cream, even if the line for the photo wall took forever, and even if we were slightly upset with the fact that they moved the schedule without prior notice to claim the racebib at MOA, I could not help but praise the people behind the event on how organized RunRio was. There were plenty of staff, the crowd was disciplined, the place was free of garbage, and the venue was spacious. In short, everything was just comfortable. Until the next running event, RunRio!

What's inside the kit?
